Abstract
The musicological study of contemporary musical creation presents many difficulties. Works using digital technology both for their writing – score generated by algorithms or algorithmic scores – and for their performance – interactive devices and new musical interfaces – pose many methodological problems for musical analysis. For example, it is often difficult to understand how the written parts of a work are realized between the score, the algorithms present in the interactive device and the affordance of the interface or the digital lutherie. Similarly, how can we approach the work in an allographic way through its multiple aspects: from the composer’s thought to the listener’s perception, or even the musicological study?
In this presentation, I consider the allographic regime of the works as a gestural chain, from the composer’s inner gesture – his mental representations – to the perception of musical gestures by the listener and the musicologist, including the writing of the gesture – score, algorithmic part of interactive works, inherent score or affordance of instruments and interfaces, musical representation and visualization, and so forth. All these manifestations and indicators of gestures compose a complex reality that makes it possible to study the work no longer as a sum of typologies or categories but rather in a global systemic approach.
